our past month

As I was settling down for a quick nap before a pre-house-showing cleaning frenzy, I began thinking back over the past 30 days. Amazed and thankful for the ways Jesus has held on to my heart and sanity through a... Keep Reading...

Ring Out Wild Bells

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky, The flying cloud, the frosty light; The year is dying in the night; Ring out wild bells and let him die. Ring out the old, ring in the new. Ring happy bells across the snow; The year... Keep Reading...

disclaimer: i am not normally a fan

Typically, Christian skits really crawl under my skin. Kind of similar to the way hallmark cards, with an entire paragraph of someone else’s sentimental emotions typed onto some card stock with the only personalization being a handwritten signature underneath, do... Keep Reading...

the fight

We’re now into week #3 of various illnesses circulating through our house. Since Thanksgiving, someone has been sick consistently, with most of us on to round two by now. I actually broke down in tears this morning after Matthew left for... Keep Reading...

embarrassing recipe

I tend to stay away from overly-processed, quick-fix meals for a host of reasons, but mainly because if I can’t stand the look or smell or idea of something before it’s mixed together with a bunch of other ingredients, that’s... Keep Reading...

gutsy women

I’ve been reading a compilation of the writings of Michal Ann Goll, who passed away last year. She was one of those women who Jesus set free from years of operating out of fear – fear of man, fear of... Keep Reading...

the healing process: parenting

One of the things Jesus helped us come to grips with this year was just how low we’d sunk into our victim mentality of parenting. We had a whirlwind romance, getting engaged 5 months after we’d officially met and had spent... Keep Reading...

I am Amy Smith

Amy Smith and Family including Matthew, Brighton, and Levi

I’m a mother of two, wife to Matthew, crazy-loved daughter of the King, and fervent believer in the healing power of bluegrass music.

As healing and growth has blown the lid off 2009 for our family, we stand amazed at the overwhelming love of our Father and his sweaty diligence in sawing away the dead branches this year. It was messy, trust me.

And our previous thought of “being done” with our family is now laughable, as God has opened our hearts to the beauty and urgency of adoption. There is a child out there God always knew would be a minismith and we’re on the path to find him/her.

You can find my random daily musings on twitter.
