the whirlwind

With this rainstorm of events swirling around us, I couldn’t for the life of me remember where I had last left off in the blogging world. Once I double checked my last post, I realized quite a bit has occurred since, but to keep things short…

Our contract did fall through. We relisted our property and received two offers the next day, accepting one and entering back into a new, much more solid and tight (in our favor) contract. Our contract was back on for our new house…until he had friends approach him wanting to buy his place…he debated and questioned whether he should risk waiting on us, resign the new contract with us or sell to his friend. We were again discouraged as nothing on the market, in that area/school district, was in our price range, whereas this house was significantly below it. He inferred the worst. Matthew wrote a winsome letter and put it in his mailbox. He changed his mind and decided to go with us yesterday. Hurray!

So we have a new contract on our current house, a new contract on our new house and health is slowly being restored in our family. Matthew still sounds as if he’s hacking up a lung and Levi’s double ear infection is causing some minor grief, but we feel as if we’re crawling back out of our hole and squinting into the sunlight in hopes of life getting back to “normal” again soon.

We have some time to rest with a closing date still 6 weeks away. So thankfully we’re able to put on the brakes and slow down a bit after a crazy past few weeks.

Today the boys and I headed downtown to pass the morning hours, stop in for a visit with Matthew and attempt to help Levi forget his morning nap.

I was hoping for a peaceful, relaxing stroll outdoors, instead we returned to the car 2 hours later after:

  • Brighton had thrown a baseball size rock at a parked Lexus…with the owner seated inside.
  • Levi had poured apple juice all over himself 15 minutes into our outing becoming a sticky, sopping, smelly mess.
  • Brighton had announced to the entire cafe filled with silent, hushed businessmen, “I have a poo-poo, Mama! I HAVE A POO-POO!”
  • Levi had stuck out his peanut butter covered hand to “pat” a business man on his expensive pant leg as we headed outside.
  • Heading back to the car while Brighton had been swinging his “sword” (aka: stick), he had wacked a older women in her rear as she passed us by.

This pleasant morning ended with a parking ticket on my vehicle, that I had just moved to a new spot as to not be issued a ticket for going over my 30 minutes. The new ticket was for parking backwards into a spot. Who ever knew there was such a thing. I guess it’s a rule made for the lazy officers who don’t want to have to walk around to the front of the car to check the license plate number. Or who knows, maybe it’s extremely dangerous to have a car facing forwards instead of backwards in a parked, motionless position.

Tonight Matthew and I escape after 2 weeks of our sick house confinement. To roam around downtown childless, enjoy the gorgeous weather and hopefully a few margaritas on an outdoor deck as well.

A newly awoken, sheet-print-faced Levi…

An excited Brighton after receiving his new special package from GranLou directly from the FedEx man himself…

What a hoot! It times like that that leaving me muttering, “This is NOT what I signed up for!”, but the sweet smiles make it worth it (well, most of the time!)

I’m so happy to hear everything is back “on” with the houses. That in itself would have been enough to stress me into a raging lunatic!
Matt and I also escaped this weekend and we ended up at Eulogy. We reminisced about you both and agreed we need to see you soon!

Amy Smith and Family including Matthew, Brighton, and Levi

I’m a mother of two, wife to Matthew, daughter of the King, and fervent believer in the healing power of bluegrass music.

I now live in the great city of Greenville, SC, leaving behind Philadelphia, the city where Matthew and I fell in love and saw our two boys come in to the world.

Our recent move from north to south has begun the next chapter in the life of the Smith clan, possibly the most trying and difficult as of yet…learning to become true southerners.
