the carolinian summer has arrive

I love these boys. And I especially love just how much they love each other.

A friend of ours, Rebekah, is an amazing photographer and spent yesterday evening with us capturing some shots of the boys.

Which is a good thing, because remember back in the day when I actually took pictures of the boys and wrote all these fun, descriptive blogs about our life? Yeh, well, as we all know that doesn’t happen anymore. I’ve resorted to finagling friends to come take pictures now. Somehow we went from thousands of pictures a year, to maybe a dozen or so in 2009.

I’m looking forward to seeing how they turn out in a week or so. And maybe I won’t wait a month…or two…to share them.

And yes, hot, humid SC summertime is here in all her sweaty, sticky glory. With her, she brought a cruel, vicious thunderstorm today that destroyed our dear little treehouse-toting-tree. At least 1/3 of it. The good useful 1/3 that shielded the boys from the sun in the mornings through the early evening. Now there’s just a big gaping hole.

Afterwards, Brighton ran outside, obviously distraught, yelling, “OH NO, look at all the terrible DAMAGE, Mom! The pool is damaged, the car is damaged, the table is damaged. Uuuuugh, it is SO DANGEROUS out here! What a horrible mess!” I don’t know where he gets his dramatics from. It’s obviously not from Matthew or myself. Ha (snort).

I don’t know why things like this make me so sad. The baby birds getting devoured. Trees snapping in a matter of minutes. It gets me all outraged and weepy at the same time. I guess it’s just a reminder that life isn’t supposed to be this way.

Thankfully, Levi’s bedhead later this afternoon helped me snap back into some form of lightness. He is definitely my wild little child. He’s the one who somehow manages to make me burst out laughing in the midst of a disciplining session. He’s already learned my weak buttons…it’s scary.
