snippets #2
I should be paying bills. But who wants to pay bills on a Monday night? I’d rather drink my cup of decaf and share a few more recent snippets from the Smith homestead.
Store Boughts
I was on the phone the other day with a woman from Alabama. She’s the Order Lady for Old Crow Medicine Show and we were trying to figure out what size sweatshirt I should order, since the sizes tended to run small. The conversation went like this, after me trying to argue her into ordering me a small:
Order Lady: No honey, you do not want a small. I used to be a size 2 also before these Store Boughts and there was no way my God Givens would fit in that small. And I was a tiny thing! You’ve gotta go with a medium.
A: Umm, Store Boughts? You lost me.
Order Lady: ( Chuckle ) That’s what my husband calls em. He was tired of my tiny God Givens and told me he’d get me some Store Boughts for my birthday last year. Now I don’t fit into any of my old clothes! I used to be a size 2 all over, now I’ve got to get teeny tiny pants and big ol tops. It’s more a nuisance than anything.
I didn’t need any further explanation. Got it. Thanks Order Lady. That was more than I bargained for learning in calling to order a simple sweatshirt. She finally gave in and my God Givens ended up fitting perfectly fine into that small.
Try, Try Again
You Long-Time Readers may recall the triathlon attempt of last June, right after finding out I was pregnant with little Levi. Well, the season is upon us again and I just signed up for my next attempt, a Philadelphia womens triathlon, which thankfully isn’t until August, so I have a few months to train. Tomorrow morning I’ll start the insanity by waking up at 5:30am to get to the cycling class that is all too early, but the only time a mom of two can get to the gym. It will take a small miracle to get me out of bed that early after all these night feedings Levi is still enjoying, but hopefully he’ll be phasing those out soon as he hits 3 months in a few weeks. Here’s to not getting pregnant before this triathlon!! Keep those fingers crossed.
The Boys…
...have been total delights these past few days. Brighton is warming up to his little brother and now loves to hold him and kiss his fuzzy head. He pats his belly when he cries saying “S’okay. S’okay.” as he’s heard us do a hundred times. Everyone told me I’d get my sweet boy back, but I swear I didn’t believe them in the chaos of those first few weeks. I’m glad he’s returned.
A goofy grin from the little nut.
Today we made a duck-tape road across our carpet which provided a few hours of entertainment, as B would scream “Zoooom. CRASH!” racing the cars up and down, smashing them into each other and sending them flying off the “road”. Yep, I think I’m going to heartily enjoy being a mom of boys. Maybe we’ll add another one or two down the road. Waaay down the road.
Lastly, a shot of our afternoon snack time…a favorite activity for both B and me. He’s definitely my offspring – a lover of both apples and cheese.

Good for you, AC. You are handling this motherhood of two with such grace and beauty. I am proud of my blogging buddy!

It sounds like things are beginning to settle into a nice routine:) Good luck with the triathalon:0) I love the “road”! When my son was 2 we went to my gparents to visit! They had no trains, which he was obsessed with, so we used duct tape on all his match box cars to make one! The many uses!

congratulations on your new son, and happy belated birthday. i keep checking your blog regularly — it is encouraging you watch you go through baby number 2 — your honesty is always an encouragement ot me. I am doing a second triathlon this summer and was very excited to hear you are starting up again. If you can wake up early in the AM to train I need to get my lazy butt up before work and do my training. Question, what does your training program look like? I am doing one off of beginnertriathlete.com but woiuld love to know yours. I hope your training goes well. Have a great day!

I’m glad to know that you are having such a good time! And congrats on signing up for the tri. I did one last year, and am considering doing another before I start residency and no longer have any time to train. Although if a mother of 2 can do it, then I have no excuse!
