January 2, 2007 | Mama Smith
rest has arrived
Our last houseguest – out of four over the past few days- my sister, has bid farewell and here Matthew and I sit. Alone. Breathing a sigh of relief. It has been one wild week.
Within the past week, we have returned from London, Matthew has flown to and from St. Louis, we have hosted my two sisters and two college friends, I have been gone three nights in a row at wedding festivities, my 34 week pregnant body remained upright for an entire wedding without fainting, and we have slept – at most – a six hour stretch at night between Brighton’s frequent night wakings adjusting to his sleep schedule back in the states. Oh, and I slammed my foot in my sisters car door this morning.
We’re ready for a break. I think it’s now upon us. Matthew snuck this shot of Brighton and I reading on the couch together this afternoon. I think he’s glad to have his mom all to himself again.
The wedding ended up being a fun break for Matthew and I, with my sisters in town to babysit B. I’m still waiting on some from the actual wedding, but here are a few from the rehearsal night.
Also, here are a few remaining pictures of our time in London…
One of our many nights pubbing
Toasting at Belgos
B sharing in the toast…isn’t the legal drinking age 1 year old over there?
Off to our Christmas surprise – the Lion King on Broadway!! It was amazing!
One of our many tube rides
The day we arrived, walking over the Camden Lock
Pit stop at a cafe…are we done with this site seeing thing yet?

Snoozing with Mimi after a long flight not sleeping a WINK!
Hopefully, with the non-stop action finally coming to a close, I’ll be back on here a little more regularly. We’re hoping to spend this month just enjoying a slower pace and prepping for minismith #2.
I was reminiscing last night that at 6 weeks to go last time, we had Brighton’s room all ready, his clothes basically all washed and put away, his co-sleeper in our room ready to be set up next to the bed, and his car seat ready to be installed at the one month countdown. I also realized that we have not done a thing to prepare for this next bambino at the same mark. 6 weeks to go and the infant clothes are still packed away in the basement needing to be washed. No area has been carved out for him in Brighton’s room as of yet. Who knows where the mobile, playmat, and infant toys are. And the car seat is….well, somewhere? Probably under a pile of clothes in the back of my closet.
After the third of Brighton’s crying sessions in one night this morning at 5am, I finally settled him back down but was too awake to fall asleep again myself. So I start the impending list of to-do’s for the next few weeks. B even helped me mark one off the list, by re-organize his room this afternoon to make room for the crib we’re picking up from a gal down the street.
I can’t believe we will have a two crib room. I’m not in any hurry to get B out of his though, even though minismith #2 won’t join him until he’s 3 months old, making B 21 months old. I’d rather B adjust to sharing his room with his new little brother in the confines of his own crib, especially since I’m sure his sleep will be disrupted quite a bit at first. Whew. What a nutty year it’s going to be. Lots of adjustments for all.
Although now is not the time to think about it. I think now is the time for a hot bath, a good book and an early bedtime instead.

Glad to see the L. photos. Some are so
artistic as to be “pro” quality.
