embarrassing recipe

I tend to stay away from overly-processed, quick-fix meals for a host of reasons, but mainly because if I can’t stand the look or smell or idea of something before it’s mixed together with a bunch of other ingredients, that’s... Keep Reading...

gnocchi

Poor minismith. It has received no love this year. If it’s any indication of what has received my attention and focus this year in it’s place, then you’d probably all agree, it’s a good thing. Mothering, marriage, friendships, belief are just... Keep Reading...

Cannelloni Break-Down

Okay, so it seems like my post worked and your bellies are all growling for some gooey cannelloni. Instead of emailing the recipe out to everyone who requested it, I thought I’d go ahead and post it here. I will... Keep Reading...

oh glorious zicam

My mom swears by it, but it wasn’t until this recent illness that I became a believer myself. The beauty and cunning of Zicam to locate and decimate those evil cold/flu germs in my body was simply amazing. Well, I’m... Keep Reading...

not what you think

dreams While not always true, dreams can sometimes be very telling about where one is at in life. Last night I dreamed that I wandered into our bathroom to start a bath for the boys, only to find it full of... Keep Reading...

vegan mania

The vegan fever has been unleashed in our kitchen. The past few days I have been churning out obscene amounts of food, all in the name of “practice”. I thought I’d need need an army of hungry vegans to help... Keep Reading...

fall flavors

After the many emailed requests, I figured I’d just post these recipes for all to enjoy. We’re pretty hooked on my traditional butternut squash soup recipe, but this curried apple one is definitely luring our affections. From the well-known chef,... Keep Reading...

partnership

One thing we prayed long and hard about during our transitional move to SC was the hope of finding deep, meaningful friendships. This is always a fear when one uproots and finds a new home three states away. We have... Keep Reading...

The other morning, Brighton had his first experience with loosing a friend after finding him smashed in the alleyway behind our house. Trevor the Tractor. His little pocket buddy. He used to carry him everywhere. Somehow he’d been left behind... Keep Reading...

crepe weather

Crepes have once again invaded our table. Last night it was ham, swiss, sun-dried tomato & spinach crepes with salad. This morning we topped them with strawberry, cottage cheese, and powdered sugar. Then for lunch this afternoon, we proceeded to... Keep Reading...

calling the troops!!

I don’t remember much of that first week with Brighton, being in a foggy, post-traumatic labor daze. But I do remember feasting…at least what seemed like feasting to my nursing, calorie-starved body. No thanks to myself, but rather all to... Keep Reading...

I am Amy Smith

Amy Smith and Family including Matthew, Brighton, and Levi

I’m a mother of two minismiths (with the third having beat us all to heaven, lucky duck), wife to Matthew, crazy-loved daughter of the King, and fervent believer in the healing power of bluegrass music.

As healing and growth has blown the lid off 2009 for our family, we stand amazed at the overwhelming love of our Father and his sweaty diligence in sawing away the dead branches this year. It was messy, trust me.

2010 has continued to press us hard into Jesus as an unexpected pregnancy put a halt on our adoption plans, leaving us overjoyed with anticipation for minismith #3. Only to find out Jesus had called her back to Himself 9 weeks later.

We now stand with our hands open, asking Him to fill our aching hearts with Himself and lead us on through this season of healing.

You can find my random daily musings on twitter.
