"real" food

photo

“Yeh, hand over the goods, Momma!”

I don’t know if you call that nasty rice cereal mix “real food”, but today Brighton enjoyed his first meal other than straight milk. Earth’s Best Organic Brown Rice Cereal. Sounds tasty, doesn’t it? I don’t know if he was more excited about the spoon or the cereal, but he downed the whole bowl. NOTHING dripped out of his mouth. That was shocking, since I figured it’d be all down the front of his bib as he adjusted to swallowing food. He turns six months next week, so I guess it was about time. You know me, I had to document it, and as the pictures show, he was pretty pumped about the whole ordeal.

“Gimmee, gimmee, gimmee, gimmee”

“Heh, heh, look who’s eating the REAL stuff now! None of that sissy milk for me anymore”

Other food news in the Smith household, we’re following through with our 30-day Sugar Fast again. My naturopathic doctor out in CO had me do this before I became pregnant, so we owe Brighton’s heartiness to her :) I have become a sugar-fiend with nursing, so this will either kill me or…threaten to turn me into a horribly snotty person. Let’s hope for neither. The countdown has begun…

And lastly, a picture of the first fruits of our wee lemon tree we purchased after getting married. It’s just a tiny little potted guy that didn’t show much promise, but get this…after we became pregnant with Brighton, we noticed tiny flower buds popping up that eventually turned into little pieces of fruit right before Brighton was born!? And now we have real lemons! Kind of bizarre, I’d say. We just had to pick the first one off because it had gotten too big and was weighing down the branch. There are three left. Let’s hope that’s not symbolic of anything (or anyONE…or 3) else.

B is adorable. wow. the Halls are expanding…Elizabeth is anyday and Kelly in a month! :) and Natalie in July, right?

I met Cathleen (a UVA law student) who said she grew up with the coolest of the Halls in Charlottesville….she was sitting right behind me at church Sunday night.

You all are great :). I can’t believe B is eating people food. And, I can’t believe that you’re doing no sugar again . . . way to go. (I hope we don’t go to Buca and get that big chocolate cake). So disciplined!

And, cool lemon tree. We actually have an orange tree in our kitchen that grows little oranges. Strange how you can grow things like that indoors.

Did B get another haircut? It looks shorter? Hopefully, we can give you a haircut soon :).

Love ya!

Hey Jeannie! I didn’t know Cathleen was in the DC area?! Tell her I said hey if you see her again. Yeh, now we’ll have great-cousins running around instead of just plain ol’ cousins. The Hall lot is going to be insane!!

And no, Mar…B hasn’t gotten another haircut. It’s actually growing back in. It just does funky things some mornings and looks different. And man, we better NOT go to Buca. I don’t think I could resist that cake!! Matthew would have to chain me to my chair or something :0) Looking forward to all hanging out though.
