proof that mothers never sit down

8135 steps and we’re just halfway through the day, folks.

Yesterday I received a complimentary pedometer in the mail from some drug company trying to lure me into buying medication for menopause. Not sure where they got my age bracket from, but I’m hoping that’s still a few years off.

Being the dork that I am (Rach & Apes, you can testify :), I decided to tote around my new free piece of plastic on my waist today. For the past 7 hours I have refilled 6 sippy cups, prepared and cleaned up from two different meals, chased the dog around the yard in attempt to rescue my flip-flop, played soldiers with the boys, had a pillow fight with B on the couch, changed diapers, changed dirty clothes on the boys twice and tallied up a whopping 8K steps with still another 7 hours to go in the day. At this rate, us mothers could be qualified for the “highly active” category according to this website.

Which, come on, have we ever doubted that? Usually I don’t sit down until 2pm if I’m lucky. If there aren’t dishes to clean, laundry to do and dog crap to scoop in the backyard while the boys nap. Why do I even bother with the gym?? Oh right, to get a BREAK from mothering for awhile. Ahh, nothing like dropping the kids off in the nursery and wandering around unencumbered for a glorious hour of freedom. I used to exercise to get buff. Now I do it simply for the alone time.

On to more exciting things, the birthday festivities were a blast. Family party on Thursday and extended family & friends on Friday. Other than the fact that we forgot our camera for B’s birthday party, it was a raging success. The day after his party, Brighton sat on the floor of his room surround by his new toys and innocently looked up at me asking “Momma, when is Santa coming to our house?” Hmm, the greed has begun.

He and Levi are digging (aka: fighting over) the new thrifted police car Mom & Dad bought him for his bday. To solve the sharing issue, they both squeeze into it and waddle around the yard. There are many pictures yet to come, some are on the photos page if you care to look, but for now the puppy is beckoning me from the backyard.

I am Amy Smith

Amy Smith and Family including Matthew, Brighton, and Levi

I’m a mother of two, wife to Matthew, daughter of the King, and fervent believer in the healing power of bluegrass music.

I now live in the great southlands, leaving behind Philadelphia, the city where Matthew and I fell in love and saw our two boys come in to the world.

Our recent move from north to south has begun the next chapter in the life of the Smith clan, possibly the most trying and difficult as of yet…learning to become true southerners.
