august showers
Despite the rain-filled clouds that never officially decided whether to drench us or keep us dry, we ended up having a sweet time celebrating B with our friends yesterday. The drizzle came and went, driving us indoors, then back out, but everyone seemed to roll with the punches, especially the kiddos. They made the most of the situation by donning their umbrellas and making up their own games, for our lack of planning such.
They would all squat in the grass while Brighton, hidden behind the striped umbrella, would count to four and then they’d all jump up. For some reason, this silly game was causing belly laughter to overtake B. We adults couldn’t help but join in.
It was fun to see Brighton taking in everything as much as his little 2 year old brain could. The decorations, the cake, the friends. He kept cheering and running around saying “Happy Day! Happy Day!”. And of course, “Cake. Cake, Mama. Brighton Happy Day”. I think he simply associates birthdays as an event created for eating cake.
All the excitement and sugar was a bit much for him, causing him to sleep in well past his usually 7am rise time, to almost 9am this morning. Then it was more birthday present opening. This time the ones from us and the rest of the family. Talk about birthday overload. Those pictures and stories will come soon. For now, we are pooped and off to bed before 11pm hits at least once this week.
You can find a few more pictures we managed to capture in between the rain showers on my flickr page.

I like looking at your blog! Hope all is well. busy packing? Sounds like you are moving to SC! Greenville is great, I grew up in Anderson about 20 min from there! So feel free to ask about anything!

I love the picture of Brighton sneaking a chip! The umbrella pictures are great as is your description. If only you could record and add the sound of Brighton laughing as they were doing it. It was priceless!
