my Papa
An ordinary start to an ordinary morning. Coffee poured, peaches cut over yogurt and granola, laughter shared as we all four cuddle in bed.
Then word came from my parents that Papa, my mom’s father, is not well. Alzheimer’s has held his body hostage and now offers to give him final rest. There may only be a week left.
Words can not express.
Papa taught me to not fear water and jump. Swimming my first doggie paddles around their pool in Orange. He taught me to dance. Secured on his feet, hand in hand, swirling in the paper crown Nana had made for my head. He shared with me his love of owls. My first sewing creation was a small bean bag owl, that supposedly still sits on a shelf in their office. He shared with me the Pacific Ocean and the beautifully, intricate dribble castles their wet sand would create.
He loved us tenderly and with such overflowing passion, reserved only for grandparents. Blossoming from the freedom they’re given after years of being rule-keeping-parents.
The boys and I may be taking a 5 hour non-stop flight out to CA before, in the mix of, or after this move, if finances allow. Everything just seems to much right now. Please keep my Nana, Papa and our whole family in your prayers.

Amy, I am so sorry. I doubt this would be easy at any time but now in the midst of all you have going on it must seem so completely overwhelming. If there is ANYTHING I can do to help, please let me know. You all are in my my thoughts.

I’ll second what Meg wrote: My thoughts and prayers are with you. Losing someone so dear is never easy, it’s among the hardest things in the world. Especially losing someone so dear to something so awful as Alzheimer’s.

Amy-
When our internet connection is working here in Austria, I try to check in on your family…I’m very sorry to hear about your grandfather and will be lifting your family up to our Heavenly Father, as you are going through a lot of transition right now. Would you mind, if you get a chance to send me your parents e-mail address?

Amy: Grandmother LaVerne wrote exactly what I was thinking. About the tribute to your grandfather, about how much Brighton looks like the little girl in that castles photo, about how much you give to all of us. As she said, Bless you. LOve, MamaLou

Amy, I cried when I read about your grandfather’s homegoing. I hurt with you and your family.
