monday evening

Finally! The fruits of boredom have blossomed into creativity…instead of mindless roaming around on the internet, catching up on blog feeds. When I am tired and bored, whatever takes the least amount of effort usually wins. Whereas when I am a semi-rested, bored person, I can sometimes muster up enough energy to engage in the hobbies I once enjoyed to pass the hours instead. Not always, but sometimes.

I used to enjoy sewing and creating. Since Levi came along, we’ve simply been wading through the waters of NewbornLand and all former enjoyments were kind of sidelined for the time being.

I hope this is a sign of the beginning of a slow journey back to normalcy, in whatever form that takes on in the new foursome Smith household.

Matthew was off at a meeting last night and I started to open my computer, but a pair of Matthew’s old boxers were poking out of the top of my fabric box and caught my eye. I’d been wanting to make B some summer high-waters out of them. For about 2 months now.

A little while later, the pants were done and I was on to pair number 2, made from some scrap fabric. I only finished one leg so far, since I decided to add a pocket and some hemming fabric and by the time it was 11pm. None the less, a pair of capris in the works. It feels good to be creating again.

I wish I had more energy to do things like this more often. I’m finding with this new role of mothering though, you just have to jump on the bandwagon when it swings by, because it doesn’t happen often. I’d much rather fall into bed, or watch a movie, or eat a whole carton of ice cream alone, or all of the above at once, than lift a finger to do anything by nightfall.

B tested out the first pair of pants for me this morning.

And proof that Levi does like him better than anyone else in the family. He breaks out into a full body wiggle, cooing and gurgling at B anytime he comes within a few feet of him.

Although Brighton was not too thrilled that Levi had temporarily taken over his seat in the stroller while we sat in our yard this a.m. He thus decided to take over Levi’s position, climbing into the back of the stroller, while I was busy taking pictures of L. Little too cozy for you, bud. As he quickly found out.

The Painted Veil awaits us, as Matthew is reminding me, so that’s all for this evening. Hope this Tuesday has treated you well.

I am Amy Smith

Amy Smith and Family including Matthew, Brighton, and Levi

I’m a mother of two, wife to Matthew, daughter of the King, and fervent believer in the healing power of bluegrass music.

I now live in the great city of Greenville, SC, leaving behind Philadelphia, the city where Matthew and I fell in love and saw our two boys come in to the world.

Our recent move from north to south has begun the next chapter in the life of the Smith clan, possibly the most trying and difficult as of yet…learning to become true southerners.
