long overdue

Yes, this post is long overdue. I’ve left you all hanging for weeks now wondering what “change is in the air” for the Smith family. No, there is no bun in the oven. I would have jumped off a building by now if that were the case (sarcasm, people).

What has been brewing is the listing of and record breaking one week sale of our home. Yes, our sweet little house that we started our Greenville lives in.

The story is long, but the basic abridged version is that Matthew now has a gorgeous downtown office, no longer needs to work from home, the sale of our side lot never happen, and thus we are downsizing, moving to a cozy cottage in a great neighborhood downtown, where walking to the park can become a part of our daily routine again and the boys can run free in a great fenced-in backyard. Not to mention, the boy’s future school – which is a magnet school for the arts, of all things – is just a mere 3 blocks away.

This has been a God-thing from the beginning.

After much prayer and tossing around different ideas/options. We decided to list our home For Sale By Owner, just to see if we got any bites. It sold in less than a week. We will end up making money and getting out of debt, which is unheard of in the housing market right now with a less-than-a-year sale of a home. And we found a tiny, but adorable home that hadn’t even made it to the market yet in the area of town we loved for well below our searching price range.

So the past month has involved lots of praying, lots of advice seeking, lots of added stress, but we feel a sense of relief with the decision as all these pieces have fallen into place.

Thus we begin the joy of repacking our house and moving 1.5 miles away. Which, I guess, has got to be a little better than moving 3 states away.

Now that that’s out, hopefully blogging can get back to normal, as I won’t have to be skirting the major ordeal going on in our lives. Or maybe not. Depending on how crazy out lives get in the next four weeks before our move.

Girl, this is a big deal. I’m really proud of you guys for listening to the Lord. It must be sort of a bitter sweet time for you. I have to say, your new house looks just as wonderful as the first. We are gladly – n – sadly not even on the brink of homeownership, but living vicariously through you! Love you!

I am Amy Smith

Amy Smith and Family including Matthew, Brighton, and Levi

I’m a mother of two, wife to Matthew, daughter of the King, and fervent believer in the healing power of bluegrass music.

I now live in the great city of Greenville, SC, leaving behind Philadelphia, the city where Matthew and I fell in love and saw our two boys come in to the world.

Our recent move from north to south has begun the next chapter in the life of the Smith clan, possibly the most trying and difficult as of yet…learning to become true southerners.
