i would be sleeping if...

Most prego gals have a hard time sleeping these last few weeks of pregnancy. For some reason, that was never an issue for me, at least in my pregnancy with Brighton. I was able to get a full 9 hours of sleep the whole last month before he arrived. God must have known I’d need that with 10 months of no sleeping to follow.

I wish I had the same luxury now. My body would definitely be snoozing peacefully if it weren’t for a few key factors.

Namely the mice, that have decided to use our bedroom as their nightly romp room starting around 1am until 4am. It’s hard to sleep when you hear creatures chewing on who-knows-what under your bed, rustling in the plant on top of your dresser and bounding from shirt to shirt in your closet.

And then, there’s your son, who has decided to give up his previous angelic sleep schedule of 6pm-7am that he abided in pre-London. Instead, he now rises every morning at 4am to megaphone “talk” to his stuffed animals and new animal curtains, while banging his crib up against the wall shared with our headboard in the room next door (at least that gets the mice to quiet down some). Only to fall back asleep around 5am…

...right when your upstairs neighbor’s alarm goes off at 5am…and is put on snooze for a full hour before they finally decide to arise and stomp around in high heels, dropping hair dryers and flat irons on their bedroom floor. A mere 2 inches of ceiling separating us from their rambunctious morning routine.

Then Matthew’s alarm goes off somewhere around 6:30am, which usually causes Brighton to stir and reminds him their are stuffed animals that need orders shouted to and a crib that needs banging.

Somehow Matthew doesn’t hear an ounce of all this nightly commotion. So maybe I am struggling with the whole sleep thing at this stage in the game more than I think. Maybe if all these circumstances were stilled, I’d still be tossing and turning. Maybe this is actually what they call pregnancy insomnia.

It’s more fulfilling to blaim somebody else than my own body though.

Sorry for the lack of pictures. Our camera is on loan to a friend. It did snow today…but only for a brief 10 minutes. So it would have made a lame picture anyhow. I have been waiting and waiting to show B some snow. So I did take him outside to stand under the massive flakes as they swirled around us. But he was way more interested in picking up rocks. Go figure.

I can’t believe the minismith number two is only a few weeks away! We’ll be praying for you and the little guy, for Matthew and for B. Hope everything goes over smoothly.

you are hilarious, amy! i can just picture all those things happening thru the night. the mice…uck! the son talking to his animals…so funny! the neighbor…grrr! but at least you’re being entertained somewhat, when i had pregnancy insomnia the house was too quiet and scarey. i spent a lot of time on the internet, but nothing helped. i hope it gets better for you soon, get some rest.
