home on the range
A quote from my first week in Colorado and the beginning of our four month engagement:
A (staring out the window of Matthew’s truck on I-25): What are those things leaping around out there?
M: Antelopes.
A: Oh right, this is where the deer and the antelope play.
And he still married me. Smart alect and all. Colorado was were I was first introduced to all kinds of crazy wildlife. I won’t get into the story of the first time I saw a pack of elk run across the road in Evergreen or spotted the Jim-Hensen-type-creature, known as the buffalo, waddling down a nearby slope.
Now we have our own funny little creatures to marvel at each day. As much as they test our patience, they cause us to laugh more than we remember doing at any other point in our lives.
Levi and his lizard face…
Brighton and his coy “Heeeey Papa. Heeey Mama”. I think we’re hooked on these two little guys.
We’ve been enjoying the beautiful cool & sunny weather outdoors. And the storm door, that provides many laughs as B and I have fierce silly face contests back and forth. He always wins though, dangit.
Today Brighton found a stick where the bark had pulled back half of the stick and he ran over to me crying “Helicopter! Helicopter!” as the top of the stick wobbled like a helipcopter blade. It reminded me of my many stick creations growing up, spending all my time outdoors, in the woods, or under the honeysuckle bush in our backyard.
Here he is explaining how it works to me…
Don’t ask. I don’t know what his obsession with standing on his head is all about these days.
And little Levi is keeping things lively himself as he grows into his new 4 Month Old status. He still loves those hands, spitting out the pacifier to suck his fingers raw instead.
He’s a champ when it comes to dealing with his adoring, but sometimes unknowingly rough older brother. It looks like B’s stuffing him in a box for a magic trick or something…
I know, I know…we’re often told there are too few pics of these fellas together, but it just doesn’t work that easy, folks. Proof. Can I get a smile or something, guys?!
Whew, too long of a post. Gets kind of rambly when all I have are over a dozen photos to share. But you ask for them, so here they are. That’s all for me tonight. I sit here writing to the sound of strawberry sour cream ice cream churning away, ready to be devour in 5 more minutes. And a freshly laundered & ironed pile of fabrics waiting to be transformed into a tank I’m starting on tonight. These are the nights that offer me hope and respite to get through those long, tiring days.

Absolutely LOVE the pics! SO adorable! It looks like Levi is holding his head up in that 2nd pic of him and Brighton. Wow! And, not much beats the pic of Brighton on his head — I’d love to see that in person.
Enjoy your homemade ice cream and sewing. Some day soon I’ll finish Brighton’s quilt . . . it’s on my list — I promise!!
Love you guys!!!

Amy, You should get the mom of the year award! Homemade ice crean AND home made clothes?!? Can I come apprentice under you? I honestly don’t know how you have time to brush your hair much less make such a beautiful life for your boys. Truly inspiring…

I don’t have time to brush my hair…or shower…or pee or eat, for that matter. It’s all about priorities :) Actually, as I was posting last night I had to pee SO badly, but I didn’t want to go for fear that the toilet would wake up Levi and I wouldn’t be able to finish my post. How’s that for weirdness?? I do these things to feel more like me and less like a 24/7 mom. I still feel cuckoo and stressed most of the time, but if I don’t MAKE time for creativity and things I enjoy, I’d loose it. You’ll see when you’re little bambino arrives in December! You’re gonna do an awesome Mama-job yourself. Awesome-Mama-Job in my book does not include loving every moment or achieving cleaniness, creativity and perfect children at all cost. It means surviving the hellish days, relishing the sweet moments and being honest about the struggle and beauty of it all. Realizing Jesus is sweeter than good kids, easy days, and a joyfully serving husband.

Standing on the head??? It’s the “View”, Amy!!
And it’s engineer/artist genes that saw a helic.
in that stick! And some other genes that led him to try to explain it….
Wonderful pics! Thank You ! Thank You! You
may never know how much they mean to us!
We’ve had a wonderfully cool, beautiful spring
with everything in sight trying to outdo all the
others with magnificent blooms…even the sun
sets have gotten into the act…beautiful every
nite as we sit on the dog’s porch with them…
watching the western sky. Great life! We are
enjoying living in our own little “resort”. Wish
you and all 3 of your fellas were here to enjoy
it with us. Bring ice cream if you come!
