Grace in Small Things: Day 121 of 2009

1. Spending the morning exploring the many, many, MANY stone steps with the boys at Falls Park. Rarely is the park this empty when spring has just arrived. It was nice to have it all to ourselves.

2. Signing up for my first (and only) triathlon of the year. Trying not to be so overzealous this go-round and disappoint myself. Goal #1: Get more comfortable with my clipless pedals AND learn my gears better. Almost wiped out with boys in trailer last week.

3. Having a moment of emotional lethargy/despair this morning, chased away by a moment of hope. Partly involving a dive-bombing hawk off the side of a mirrored “sky-scaper” (Greenville-style, that is) building downtown.

4. The smell of a freshly baked vegan carrot cake cooling on the stove, thanks to Emily Smith and her amazing recipes she so freely gives, even though she could start her own bakery if she wanted. It actually rose and looks GOOD (Unlike Emily, I am NOT a very skilled vegan baker, if you can tell).

5. Celebrating sister Diggy’s completion of her first year of college tonight. With homemade calzones and said carrot cake. Droooool.

I am Amy Smith

Amy Smith and Family including Matthew, Brighton, and Levi

I’m a mother of two minismiths (with the third having beat us all to heaven, lucky duck), wife to Matthew, crazy-loved daughter of the King, and fervent believer in the healing power of bluegrass music.

As healing and growth has blown the lid off 2009 for our family, we stand amazed at the overwhelming love of our Father and his sweaty diligence in sawing away the dead branches this year. It was messy, trust me.

2010 has continued to press us hard into Jesus as an unexpected pregnancy put a halt on our adoption plans, leaving us overjoyed with anticipation for minismith #3. Only to find out Jesus had called her back to Himself 9 weeks later.

We now stand with our hands open, asking Him to fill our aching hearts with Himself and lead us on through this season of healing.

You can find my random daily musings on twitter.
