first "barber" experience
I couldn’t say this was Brighton’s first hair cut, since that was at 4 months when we took the buzzer to his head due to the mop of bangs that was growing past his eyelashes. But today B had his first haircutter experience at a local kids barber shop. The stylist was more worried about taking off his hair and our reaction than we were. She kept saying “Now you know, he will look A LOT older after I do this. Are you ready for that? Are you sure? He’ll look really different”. I guess this must be a tear-shed moment for some parents.
It’s actually a pretty cool place with a slide and all indoors, but too pricey to ever return to. We thankfully got our trim for free since we had to wait so long. I was too nervous to attempt trimming his feathery straight hair on my own. At least this first time with nothing to guide me. But since his mullet was getting a nice 80’s look to it and his ears were practically covered, we decided it was time to get him trimmed up.
He was fine for awhile, but since he’d forgone his morning nap, the pacifier had to come out and the Baby Einstein had to crank up on the tv…that EACH chair has?! Only in Chestnut Hill would you find a place like this :)
“Okay, nice try, but the car isn’t fooling me. This is definitely NOT a fun experience. I think I’m done here, folks”
The before shot (sorry, not a great angle to catch the sweet mullet)
The after shot…freshly “bed-headed” from his nap
And this last random shot was a funny picture I came across the other day. Sorry for the quality, I just took a picture of the picture. My mom had this in one of my photo albums and next to it had written “The Determined Mother In-Training”. Yes, I still wear that same face as I troop back and forth from the co-op with Brighton in the stroller or the sling. Funny how we don’t change all that much. Even from when we were peanuts ourselves.
So the travels begin again in the Smith household this week. I’m off to visit my folks in VA while Matthew’s in London again. We’re both wishing we could stay settled in life here for a little bit longer before this next upheaval, but we know as tired as we are Christ has much grace to offer us weary travellers in the midst.

I know what you mean about expensive haircuts! The first time I took Anna, it was this “gourmet” place. Honestly, it didn’t do me much better than a cheapo place…but it was definitely cooler in every way for her. And she got a lollipop and a prize:). How are you doing, little Mama x2? Hanging in there?
