Today I lost my grandfather.

My mom lost her daddy.

My Nana lost the love of her life and partner of over 50 years.

He was a husband, a father, a grandfather to this adoring crew of 11.

He will be deeply, deeply missed.

Today as we packed our moving van with all of Brighton’s things, we had to keep reminding him over and over that his books and toys are not disappearing, but are instead going to his “New House”. He would respond with “Yeh, fun!”.

As I tucked Brighton in to bed this evening, I told him as many stories as I could recall, through the emotions and tears, of his great-grandfather Ed. And told him that today, great-granddad Ed, got to go to his “New House” and be with Jesus. Brighton’s response was “Yeh, fun!”. I bet Papa heard that…and heartily agrees.

Amy, what a wonderful way to explain the passing of a well loved one to Brighton. It was
a wonderful way of expressing the transition.
I know your sorrow is deep. Grandmother L.

I am Amy Smith

Amy Smith and Family including Matthew, Brighton, and Levi

I’m a mother of two, wife to Matthew, daughter of the King, and fervent believer in the healing power of bluegrass music.

I now live in the great city of Greenville, SC, leaving behind Philadelphia, the city where Matthew and I fell in love and saw our two boys come in to the world.

Our recent move from north to south has begun the next chapter in the life of the Smith clan, possibly the most trying and difficult as of yet…learning to become true southerners.
