THE FIRST MINISMITH GIVEAWAY!!

I’ve been waiting to share my latest find with you all, once they were all passed out and received by their lucky recipients. I found HomeStudio through a design feed I follow and immediately wanted to buy up their entire inventory of scrabble tile pendants. I’ve seen these attempted before, but Home Studio takes a great idea and blows it out of the water with their beautiful, hip designs. I’ve never been stopped on the street as much as I have with this necklace:

There’s nothing like owning a fun piece of unique jewelry that’s not just another mass-produced Target necklace.

So in honor of finding this cool new etsy store, I’m officially hosting the first ever Minismith Giveaway! I know, I know, get excited people. I’m not that generous, but HomeStudio is. They’ve offered to send a free pendant and chain to one lucky reader. Thank you, Mark & Stefani!

If you want to don your own unique scrabble tile necklace, then leave a comment by Tuesday, August 26, 2008 telling me what your favorite piece of jewelry is that you currently own. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, August 27th.

Ooo, the race is on. How exciting! Comment away, people!

As for the Smith happenings, here are a few glimpses into our past few weeks…

Those crazy boys…

This one is for my dad, who always begs to go in and watch the boys sleeping. My parents have been here all of August which has been such a treat.

B’s secret hiding place…

Pillow fighting…

B loving his new chair and book from the Colorado Grans…

Kai’s next-door-neighbor friend, Annie…

Attempted escape…

The best pathetic face EVER...

The boys loving romping in the Great Outdoors. Our backyard has seen more play time than any other room in our house.

My favorite piece of jewelry is the wedding jewelry I bought. It is from this neat store in Chattanooga and a local artists made it — it has small fresh water pearls and they hang in a really neat design — was beautiful on my wedding day and still awesome today.
sounds like you guys are settling into the new house:)

love all the photos, amy. :o) kai’s getting so big! so is seamus. i think he weighs 50 lbs. now, at 5 months old!

my favorite piece of jewelry art is a pendant i happily discovered at the open air market in charleston with josh, the day i first visited and fell in love with old charleston. we had been at the beach earlier, and i wanted a piece of jewelry that would remind me of our sweet time together, preferably something with abalone (one of my favorites).

after rows and rows of tables with corn husk dolls and kitschy shell creations etc., i stumbled across a woman who made jewelry. as i scanned her lovely work, i instantly knew MY pendant. it is large, probably almost 2” x 1.5”, and is the most intriguing almost-rectangular shape. half is sterling silver with celtic-like black scrolls worked into it, and the other half is—you guessed it!—abalone. possibly the most beautiful piece of abalone shell i’ve ever seen. it has waves of color like a pale, purply sunset. and the halves of the pendant are not divided evenly (50% top, 50% bottom), but at an angle. i love it not only for the memories, but also for its assymetry and “imperfection”. it reminds me that we’re not all the same, nor are we supposed to be…that’s what makes us beautiful in god’s eyes.

that’s probably more than you ever wanted to know. ;o)

This is hard. I love my jewels. I have had my ears pierced since I was 9 months old and my mom’s extended family (the Mexican side) has been sending me jewelry ever since.

If we’re on a necklace/pendant thing, one of my oldest and most worn pendants is a little gold cat, sitting in a basket, wearing a bow tie. It was given to me from one of my aunts in Mexico and it is so unique. A lot of people ask to see it and study what’s going on in this pendant. I’m not sure if they like it or just think it is bizarre. I love it though…maybe because it is bizarre :)

My favorite piece of jewlry is a necklace made by my great grandmother during the Great Depression from old buttons and fishing line. She made it herself when she needed something to wear and couldnt afford to buy something new. I love that piece, for its simplicity and classiness (is that a word?)and it reminds me of the ingenuity of the women in my family.

Yeah, I want one! I love jewelry and my favorite is different everyday. My current favorite is a long turquoise necklace.

I, too, have a scrabble tile pendant that I really love. Although I think my favorite necklace is a sapphire pendant that Jeff gave me as a wedding gift. My favorite earrings are these dangling, square pink ones that I made at a jewelry store when I went with some friends. I just got a bracelet as a gift from my new sister-in-law, and in addition to being very cute, it’s also the only bracelet I own. Which automatically makes it my favorite. So. There you have it. What a fun giveaway!!

I’ve loved keeping up with you and watching your family change and grow. You give me little glimpses into my future since my kids are 17 months apart too. (Drew is 8 months and Raegan is 2). I find myself looking at your old posts, and realizing that you went through some of the same trials as I am having with two kids SO close together. If you have survived this long, then so can I!!! By they way, my Raegan wears her blanket around her neck like Levi all the time.. how weird is that!

It’s hard to narrow down to just one favorite piece of jewelry, but (aside from my wedding rings) it would have to be this big black onyx/silver pendant that I wear all the time. It’s classic and funky all in one. It’s surrounded by silver that loops around at the top. It’s my “little black dress” of jewelry.

I LOVE these. I have to get one.

My favorite piece of jewelry has to be a bridesmaid gift from Beth Anderson. She got it in her hometown of Prague and it is a beautiful tear drop sapphire pendant. I wear it all the time, unlike the dresses we all have to buy for weddings.

I’m a sucker for giveaways. Good job getting me to de-lurk. I’ve been looking at lots of scrabble tile pendants on etsy recently, so it’s nice to have a recommendation of some that I know are well done.
Favorite piece of jewelry? I don’t wear much. I’m learning to accessorize more. I do have a fun big black pendant/necklace that I break out every now and then. Besides my wedding bands, that’s probably my favorite.

hey amy, i couldn’t resist the chance at a freebie. we just bought a house in germantown so i’m back at all my old haunts again. sometimes i feel like i’m going to run into you at the coop. but no, you’re a southerner now…
favorite piece of jewelry? besides my engagement ring, i guess i would say an art deco necklace that was my great-grandmothers. i don’t wear it much because it’s very sparkly and not really an everyday kind of piece, but it’s fun and people always remark on it when i do wear it.

My favorite piece is a bracelet that I found in a little shop in Santorini, Greece last summer. Every time I wear it I think about how lovely the time I spent there was and how relaxed I was. Plus it has lots of colors in it and matches most things.

My favorite jewelry these days is the seed bead bracelets that I got in Liberia. You have to wear like 20 at a time for it to work—all different colors! So I could totally use a hip piece of jewelry. How do you wear your pendant? Or what do you hang it on? Ribbon?

I love accessories, I love looking and admiring others accessories but to be honest it is always the last thing that I buy. Then when I go to buy a piece the pressure is too great and I have no idea what to get, what style suits me, and I tend to stick with something that will go with everything so nothing too fun! But it is a goal of mine this year to expand my “collection” (two necklaces) and find my style. But for now I will say my favorite piece of jewelry that I own is the engagement/wedding rings from my best friend and hubby gave me 6 years ago.

oh oh oh! I hope I win!!!

My favourite piece of jewellery is a pink beaded necklace. It has three strands of varying lengths and ranges from hot pink, to pale pink. My grandfather gave it to my grandmother when he first met her. She was working at the front desk of a hotel in London England, he went around the corner to a little jewelery store and had them send the necklace over. The story gets much more interesting (she being a Catholic German, he being a British Jew, them getting married just after the war, she standing him up after the aforesaid necklace was sent and had accepted a date with him. . .), but that’s WAY more then you asked for.

Of course I also love my engagement ring. It was a toss up really, so I better mention both :)

Hi A,

I love the pictures of the boys (including Matthew) on the couch!! I love the Jewlery and am placing my first order but wanted to chime in on my jewelery…
A good mom might say that the oddly shaped kiln fired clay necklace that Olivia made me is my favorite, but I have another piece that trumps it.

It’s a single pearl ring that I bought myself in Santa Cruz that I purchased at a flea market while I was ‘finding myself’ in California. It’s simplicity is a stark contrast to the chaos and turmoil that accompanied that time in my life.

Fun! I LOVE this necklace!

My favorite piece of jewelry (and the only one I own of any value) is the antiques platinum and diamond ring that my mom gave me when I turned 25. Her mom gave it to her when she turned 25, and my great-grandmother gave it to my grandmother when she turned 25. It is not only gorgeous, but it reminds me of the amazing line of women I come from and gives me hope that someday I can pass it to my daughter.

I think I am barely making it in the allotted time, but here goes. I have struggled with this challenge of my favorite jewelry because honestly, I suck at jewelry. My husband has given me a couple beautiful pairs of earrings and some necklaces which I adore but are no where near as “hip” as most of these people’s comments. I am just now trying to become stylish and have busted onto the scene of dangly earrings. Pathetic, I know. But even after all my attempts to think of some cool piece of jewelry I own that might not be my fave but would at least be worthy of writing about, I keep coming back to the same thing. Something I have had for years that I have gained a new appreciation for. I developed an allergic reaction to my engagement ring and wedding band after having my second child and haven’t been able to wear them without burning my skin for the past year. I just had some work done to them and have had them on my finger now for 4 days. I’ve been a year without being able to show anyone (as if they cared) that I am my husband’s beloved, not just a frazzled young mom with 2 illegitimate children. And I will not take these rings for granted or forget to put them on ever again. They are my favorite.

I am a blog lurker…I was at Covenant the same time you were there but I don’t know that we actually knew each other but I think we have some mutaly friends (Aubrey was my roommate in Seminary). My favorite piece of jewelry is the necklace my husband gave me on our wedding night. It is called a Lukenbooth and it is a tradition in Scotland (my husband is from Scotland)for a husband to give this necklace to his wife on their wedding night and then the charm is pinned to their babies’ baptismal gowns. Its a simple silver charm but I love it.

my engagement ring is my favorite by a mile, but my next favorite is an antique diamond and pearl bracelet that my great-aunt Laura Lee (my namesake) left me when she died. It’s really special to me.
