countdown
And thus it begins. I’m remembering it all like it was yesterday. Those last few days/weeks leading up to Brighton’s arrival, my whole body started shifting and aching in preparation for his eviction from his current rental space.
The same process began a few nights ago, catching me off guard since most of my energy and focus has gone into trying to expel this nasty, draining illness from my body. The head cold/virus still won’t let up, making me nervous for a possible early arrival of minismith #2 since Brighton surprised us a week early last time. Laboring without being able to breathe through one’s nose or hear through one’s clogged ears probably won’t make the whole already grueling experience any easier.
So let’s all keep our fingers crossed that he holds off a little longer and that my body fully recoups in the next few days.
Otherwise the house is somewhat cleaned, all the necessary supplies have been gathered and the linens washed and bagged. Having had Brighton at a birth center that was 30 minutes from our house, we opted to not make that trek again and at least try for a home birth this time with our midwife we trust and love (who also delivered Brighton), and with the hospital being 10 minutes away in case I want to head there instead at any point.
We’ll see just how Christ begins the story of minismith #2’s life. Maybe it’ll be here in our home, maybe it’ll be at Chestnut Hill Hospital where my 29 year old brother was born. Either way, we just can’t wait for the story to begin and to meet our new little man. Brighton’s story definitely had a rocky start, but that’s the joy of a lifetime of chapters to be written, there’s always beauty and redemption woven in to the struggle.
And there’s no need to worry…you know us blogging fanatics…there’s no need fear that you won’t hear from us the minute (okay, well maybe not the minute, but probably a few hours or so :) he arrives!
The above picture is B with his two lady friends, Clara and Zady. We traditionally went to the cozy breakfast spot, Rollers, in Chestnut Hill to celebrate Jen and Maria’s birthday – the mommy’s of Clara and Zady. We were reminiscing about last year and how tiny these three were! In their Bjorns and infant car seats. Now we had them lined up in high seats together. Next year they’ll be coloring and philosophizing about life as a two and a half year old together.
