cake walk
Last night we joined the Udouj clan for homemade pizza and a walk to Ellie’s new school for their Fall Festival. While the kids thoroughly entertained us adults by rolling down blown-up slides and crashing into each other inside the bouncy castle, I think the cake walk was most likely the highlight of the evening for those three.
Per Matthew’s flickr post, it is now understandable where the phrase, “easy as a cake walk” came from. Seeing as all three kiddos won a cake within 10 minutes. Brighton obviously delighted with his score.
Earlier in the day, as I sat at the kitchen table with the cool breeze blowing through the window, coffee mug in hand, working on our to-do list for the day…the desire to stock up on groceries and make a Target run was squelched by the desire to get outdoors with these antsy boys.
Lunches were packed, sweatshirts were dug out of the attic, and the camera was recharged waiting for us by the door. Which I, of course, forgot. So unfortunately there is no documentation of our adventures. But we had an amazing morning roaming a nearby orchard together. Eating apple cider donuts on the tractor ride. And feeding the peacocks dried up apple leaves.
I had a little inkling that Brighton just might be enjoying himself, when on the tractor ride he kept leaning over kissing my cheek and saying, “Oh Mama, it is such a beautiful day! I love you”.
Yes, I think we all needed a little fresh air. A change of scenery. And an unexpected adventure for a Friday morning.

Tim & Rosie? We went to church with them in Oak Ridge. Glad to see y’all are enjoying fall…and escaping from the mundane tasks of mommyhood.
