around the house

As Brighton and I lay on the playroom floor this afternoon watching the clouds move across the sky, with Levi walking back and forth along the couch collecting toys and dirty diapers and whatever else I’d left up there, I realized it had been quite some time since I’d captured any pictures from around our home, or even of our boys much lately. I grabbed the camera, brushed off the cobwebs and began shooting. So brace yourselves, readers. To make up for lost time, here is a glimpse into our oh-so-thrilling day…

Brighton romping through our new yard. With the frame of the new shed in the background. He ran up to me and said, “Mama, I LIKE grass!” Yeh, me too, buddy.

We didn’t make it home from the grocery store quite in time. Levi snuck in a snooze, to my dismay, causing his nap time to be diminished by a good hour. But sleeping babies are pretty dang cute.

The baby bird anxiously waiting for me to peel his banana

...and quickly chowing down

Our den, with Matthew’s new IKEA light he adores. It actually grew on me once it was up.

And the other direction. I always hate how room shots come out. So dingy and dark. Any hints from you camera pros out there?

Our funky Christmas mantle

Brighton’s tree outside his room decked out in Matthew’s childhood ornaments. The most traditional-looking Christmas corner in our home.

Playtime. They sometimes actually enjoy each other.

...and other times, they most definitely do not. Levi is fighting back with Brighton’s shrieks of “NO, MINE!!” with his own ear piercing scream. That seems to be throwing Brighton off guard and making him immediately pat Levi saying “It’s okay, Levi. It’s okay”. Hmm, do I have another little manipulator on my hands?

No we have not converted to Clemson fans, nor will we ever be interested in football whatsoever, but this was the only warm weather item I could easily grab from the already stored summer bin. And it has a pretty humorous rear view. This was purchased at Judge Keller’s last summer during our visit to Clemson after my luggage had been lost for over 3 days. And B was chilling in just a diaper most of the time. I actually had the airline reimburse this purchase. How penny pinching.

balaaance, balaance…

Crawling into Mama’s lap

Lastly, as we drove home from the store this afternoon, a massive dump truck drives by, to which Brighton exclaims, “Woah dude! That is SOO cool!” Hm. Not sure where he picked up that one from. Actually, probably the “woah dude” from me, which I often bark at annoying drivers who cut me off, slam on their brakes or general drive like idiots around me. The “that is SOO cool”...not really sure. Either way, I feel a bit uneasy realizing how quickly my child is parroting things that come out of my own mouth. Guess I’ll need to cut down on a few of my expletives. But just a few. Ha, ha.

i can’t believe how quickly the boys are growing — esp. Levi! and that’s exciting about your pursuit of interior design. I hope we’ll get to meet up with you guys during our Greenville stay (27th – 2nd) As it’s a blustery 30 or so degrees today (with wind that takes your breath away), I’m definitely jealous of the warmth!! —Heather

hey there. i’m not too sure how i stumbled across your website awhile back…i believe through a friend of a friend of a friend, etc. i’m a mom of two month old and 19 month old boys so relate to much of what you write. thanks for your honesty about motherhood—it’s an encouragement!
and crazy enough-is your cousin charlie whom you mention a few posts back former marine charlie hall and wife elizabeth? if it is, what a small world. my dad is stationed at their last base and went to church with them.
all that to say, keep up the writing! and a happy new year to you.

I’m a mother of two, wife to Matthew, daughter of the King, and fervent believer in the healing power of bluegrass music.

I now live in the great city of Greenville, SC, leaving behind Philadelphia, the city where Matthew and I fell in love and saw our two boys come in to the world.

Our recent move from north to south has begun the next chapter in the life of the Smith clan, possibly the most trying and difficult as of yet…learning to become true southerners.
