april showers
Snow showers, to be exact. Who would have guessed mid-April we’d get dumped like this. A view from our side door this morning. A total shock to us all…mainly because we never watch the news or track the weather. I’m mourning the loss of all the beautiful flowering trees that had just bloomed in our neighborhood, offering the hope of spring to come. I doubt they’ll survive this latest freeze.
On a more cheerful note, Mr. Fish is still alive and kickin’. Thanks for all the concern and well wishes for the little guy. Brighton and Mr. Fish have bonded quite nicely, as you can see.
Tonight my friend, Lizzie, and I head off to our second quilting class. I think we were both surprised by how much fun we had last Monday and how hooked we’ve become on ramping up our sewing skills. There’s a cool group called the Philly Sewing Collective that we’re hoping to get more involved with, especially their Monday Night Sewing Cafe after we finish up our class here in a few weeks. Above are the starter blocks for the quilt I’m putting together. This has been so good for my soul. Last night Matthew forced me to hand over a cranky Levi for an hour, so I could just put on some music and become absorbed in my sewing – crying-baby-free. I couldn’t believe how refreshing and restorative it was for this tired, worn-out mom. He is sacrificing a lot to get me to have these creative moments. Probably selfishly, because he gets a more chilled out, sweet wife at the end of it all :)
It was a pretty eventful weekend around our place, involving Brighton’s first manly tumble. We were celebrating Mary’s birthday at their place, when Brighton sprinted out the door on our way to the car and immediately dashed over to the most dangerous thing within view. A basement window well. After diving on the plastic covering, he crashed through it falling 3 feet to the bottom, cutting his head, scraping up his face, and totally terrifying himself and his parents. He probably scared us more than himself though. After crying for a few minutes, he immediately asked for his hot dog that had fallen down with him. Ahh, the life with boys has begun. Wonder how many ER visits we’ll tally over the next 10 years?
A shot of B thoroughly enjoying his chili.
“Um, gosh. Who made THIS mess?! Probably Levi, Mom. I think I saw him come dump my bowl over while you weren’t looking.”

Can you email me the pattern for those quilting squares? I love them. My mom and I took 2 different quilting classes. They are lots of fun! I am trying to get motivated to make the baby a quilt…we’ll see. Thanks, lori

AC, SOOOO glad Brighton is doing okay! That was definitely traumatic! It was so great to see you all on Saturday though! Thanks for being a special part of my birthday celebration — what a great time at High Point catching up, and then at our house! I’m so thankful for you friend! Lots of love . . .

Those squares look great!! I love how bright they are. I’m glad Brighton seemed to survive his first big fall unscathed. :) Who knows…maybe he has learned an important lesson and will avoid stuff like that in the future. Although it seem like every family has its acccident-prone member. My dad had to sew my brother Austin up more times than I could count from his various accidents. Once, he even got stitches twice in two days. No kidding. And he survived, none the worse for wear.
