All Things Will be New
Somewhere around 779,040 minutes ago, our sweet firstborn Brighton tumbled into life. Why minutes? Because for better and for worse, I’ve felt the longevity or the brevity of every one of those minutes. When he was fussing and wouldn’t sleep each minute felt like it had another couple hundred seconds. The minute he first smiled seemed to lack the seconds necessary to properly celebrate.
Last night Amy and I traded off 90 minute stretches of sleeplessness as Levi Quinn bent his new vocal chords against the finally quiet Smith household, and the last six months of 6pm-6am sleeping were lost to Smith history. We are really proud of Brighton, he’s come a long way.
Amy and I feel the weight of facing more sleepless nights, but we feel it with a new faith in Jesus. He wasn’t the God of saving circumstances we had once hoped he would be, but rather he is the man who has known all circumstances, and now as He and our Abba Father watch over us with the way we look at Levi and Brighton, Jesus spills all kinds of mercy from his broken heart for us, knowing it is his Mercy, not an easier life, that will draw us into Him, and offer a life worth living.
